Welcome to The University of Iowa College of Education. Since the College's founding in 1872, as the nation's first permanent college-level department of education, the University of Iowa has been an education innovator. Our long and distinguished history of serving Iowa and the nation continues through programs in training outstanding educators, producing cutting-edge research, and designing innovative programs.

Today, as in the past, students come to the College because they want to make a difference in this world. Our students excel both academically and professionally. Evidence of our success is all around us-our graduates teach in nearly all the districts in Iowa, in every state in the nation, and in countries throughout the world. Our graduates can be found serving as principals, superintendents, counselors, psychologists, and educational leaders in a variety of fields.

The challenge of improving teaching and learning can not be limited to the classroom. Our faculty's service and research have given the College an international reputation of excellence. This reputation can be seen in fields as diverse as rehabilitation counseling, testing and measurement, and language and literacy. Other areas of recognition include the College's graduate programs, which are ranked among the top tier by U.S. News & World Report.

We are proud of our role in preparing the next generation of leaders in education, administration, counseling, and psychology by providing programs that emphasize education, not simply training.
