Biography

Ahmad Rashad Washington is a third year doctoral student in the Counselor Education & Supervision program.  He became a Holmes Scholar in May 2008 and is mentored by Dr. Malik Henfield.

Originally from Columbia, South Carolina, Ahmad attributes his success to the support he receives from his immediate and extended family.  His research interest is the holistic functioning of adolescent African American males.  Specifically, he is interested in researching young Black males evolving racial and masculine identities and how these identities interact with their perceptions of education and academic achievement.  In addition, Mr. Washington intends to explore hip-hop lyrics and how they might be used to empower young black males.
