It's time to nominate a terrific teacher for the Collegiate Teaching Award!

MEMORANDUM
To:
College of Education Faculty, Staff and
Students

We
are seeking your assistance to nominate tenured, tenure-track
or clinical faculty from the College of Education for the
Collegiate Teaching Award. From the nominations provided
by students and faculty, the collegiate committee will select
one recipient of the award.
Below
you will find nomination guidelines and a link to the release
of information form to be signed by the nominee.
Please
call this award to everyone’s attention and encourage
worthy nominations. We feel the award is important in that
it is an attempt to encourage superior teaching and recognition
by one’s colleagues and students.
We
wish to highlight the following:
- The award is based on the 2004-2007
academic years. Nominees need to have begun teaching
in the College of Education no later than Fall 2004.
- Collegiate Teaching
Award recipients from the last ten years
are not eligible for this year’s award.
- Material for
each nominee may not exceed twelve pages total, including
the letters from students. Five sets of nomination materials
are to be submitted.
- The deadline
for receipt of completed nominations in the Dean’s
Office, N459 Lindquist Center, is Friday, April 4, 2008.
Please submit them to Judy Brewer.
We
ask that the nominator take responsibility for coordinating
collection of the supporting material and making certain
the deadline is met.

NOMINATION
GUIDELINES
Please
include the following for each nominee. Nominations are welcome
from students and colleagues, but should not be made by the
nominee.
The nominee shall provide the
following information: [2 pages]
- Brief statement of nominee’s
teaching philosophy.
- Courses taught during the academic
years 2004-2005,
2005-2006, 2006-2007 (course description, class size,
and student level).
- Other teaching activities during
academic years 2004-2005,
2005-2006, 2006-2007 (workshops,
mentoring, advising, curriculum development, etc.).
- Brief description of how the nominee’s
scholarly works or creative works enhance the quality
of his/her teaching.
The
nominee should also sign the cover
page (pg. 3 of PDF file) to indicate permission
to release the information contained in the application.
- The nominator shall provide the
following information:
- A supporting letter by a colleague
describing the nominee’s excellence in teaching
during the 2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2006-2007 academic
years.

- Letters written by not more than
five current or former students enrolled in the nominee’s
classes in the last three years, consisting of supporting
paragraphs about the nominee’s strengths and qualities
as a teacher.
- Using the attached
format (pg.4-6 of PDF file), the nominator
shall provide a description of the nominee’s activities
and accomplishments which demonstrate unusually significant
and meritorious achievement in teaching during the academic
years: 2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2006-2007. [3 page maximum]
The
material for each nominee may not exceed 12 pages for parts
A and B. Nomination materials should be forwarded by the nominator(s)
to the Dean’s Office no later than Friday, April 4, 2008 . The Collegiate recipient will be chosen on
or before April 25 and their name will be announced at the Faculty Meeting on Monday, May 12.
