Dean's Scholar Award Program

The purpose of the College of Education Dean’s Scholar program is to provide additional support for the research activities of associate professors as they move toward promotion to full professor. 

Three associate professors will be selected each year.  Each will receive a $2,000 discretionary fund each year for three years.  These funds may used for “any appropriate professional reason” which advances research productivity.  Included within this definition are items such as equipment, travel, software, supplies, etc.  These funds may not be used for summer salary.

Applicants need to provide a summary of how they will use this award to further their research agenda.  While you will need to provide enough information for a committee unfamiliar with your work to make a funding decision, the description only needs to be a paragraph or two. 

In addition to the above summary you are being asked to select a full professor from within the College who will agree to work with you as a mentor.  Applicants need to briefly describe how s/he will work with the selected mentor.

While it is assumed that this support will be renewed at the end of each year, Dean’s Scholars will be asked to provide a summary by the end of each May on how the funds were expended and how they contributed to research productivity. 

Funds not completely spent in any one year may be carried over a year. 

Completed forms should be submitted to your DEO, who will then transmit them to the Dean’s Office.  A committee will be formed to identify each year’s award recipients. 

For consideration for this year, please submit the completed application form to your DEO no later than February 5th.
