Holmes Scholar SaDohl Goldsmith

Biography
I am a third year student in the Counselor Education and Supervision Program at the University of Iowa, and I became a Holmes Scholar in May, 2008. I am currently mentored by Dr. Tarrell Awe Agahe Portman.
I received two degrees from Clark Atlanta University, a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Education and a Masters of Arts in Education in School Counseling with a focus in Community Counseling. My research interests include school counselors’ knowledge, awareness, and skills with African American twice-exceptional learners.
Currently, I am a coordinator for University Programs at the Belin-Blank Center for Gifted and Talent Development. The Belin-Blank Center is dedicated to enhancing and nurturing the potential of gifted and talented students. This is in line with my career goal to develop empirical research in gifted education. My career philosophy is to enhance school counselor knowledge, awareness, and skills in gifted education, special education and twice-exceptional learners.
I am a member of the American Counseling Association and involved in the divisions of Association of Counselor Education and Supervision, American School Counselor Association, and Association of Multicultural Counseling, and Development. I am also a member of the National Association for Gifted Children.
In my spare time I enjoy reading African American Literature, listening to jazz, spending time with my family and friends, and traveling.
