Instructors:

Kris Waltman
Kris was the project director and was responsible for all aspects of project activity and project personnel. She is the Associate Director of the Center for Evaluation and Assessment (CEA) in the College of Education at the University of Iowa. Dr. Waltman has a Ph.D. in educational measurement and statistics from the University of Iowa and has been a junior high mathematics teacher for six years in Iowa. In addition, she recently completed a full-time job as Director of the Iowa Collaborative Instructional Improvement Centers for the Iowa Association of Area Education Agencies. In that capacity, Kris coordinated the statewide training for Iowa educators on assessment literacy and the statewide development and implementation of the Iowa Collaborative Assessment Modules (ICAM). Her expertise in the technical and practical aspects of measurement/assessment along with her experience as a classroom teacher and project director made her well-suited to direct the Iowa Technical Adequacy Training Project to successful completion.
 
Dave Frisbie
Dr. Frisbie has a Ph.D. in educational measurement and evaluation from Michigan State University and has been a high school teacher for two years. In addition, he has been a professor in the College of Education and an associate director in the Iowa Testing Programs for more than 20 years. In those capacities, Dave has taught many courses in educational measurement and has presented countless professional development sessions throughout the state for Iowa educators. During this same period, he also has been an author of the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills. His education and experience provided planning, instrument development, and instructional support to project activities.
 
Robert Ankenmann
Dr. Ankenmann has a Ph.D. in educational research methodology (measurement and statistics) from the University of Pittsburgh and has been a high school math teacher for five years. In addition, he has been a faculty member in the College of Education and a member of the Iowa Testing Programs staff for 8 years. In those capacities, Robert has taught courses in educational measurement and has presented professional development sessions throughout the state for Iowa educators, especially related to the implementation and scoring of the Constructed-Response Supplement (CRS) to the Iowa Tests. During this same period, he also was an author of the CRS, and he has conducted research on its validity. His education and experience provided planning, instrument development, and instructional support to project activities.
 
Craig Deville
Dr. Deville has a Ph.D. in educational research and evaluation from the Ohio State University and has been a high school teacher and university teaching assistant for several years. In addition, he has been a member of the Iowa Testing Programs staff for the past five years, working to help Iowa schools use the materials and services available through the statewide testing programs. In this capacity, Craig has presented professional development sessions throughout the state for Iowa educators and has provided telephone consultation on a daily basis for many of them. His education and experience provided planning, instrument development, and instructional support to project activities.
 
Michelle Mengeling
Dr. Mengeling has a Ph.D. in educational measurement and statistics from the University of Iowa. She has been a research assistant on the Iowa Testing Programs staff for the past seven years while working on her graduate degree. In this capacity, she has contributed to test development and has supported the technical and statistical analyses needed to complete the validation work for the Iowa Tests. In addition, Michelle has been a teaching assistant in two statistics classes, and she was a summer intern with Rick Stiggins at the Assessment Training Institute in 1997. Her education and experience provided planning, instrument development, and instructional support to project activities.
 

Instructional Designer and Webmasters:

Kyung-Hyun Kim
Kyung-Hyun has a MS in Computer Science from the University of Iowa, where she is working on her Ph.D. in Instructional Design and Technology. She has completed all the requirements for the Ph.D. except a dissertation. She has worked as a research assistant to develop databases for implant patients at the Otolaryngology Department at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. In addition, she worked as a student intern to develop dynamic web-based instructional programs for eLearnia, Inc.. She is proficient in various computer platforms, database management systems, programming languages, and multimedia software.
 
Hyunsuk Kim
Hyunsuk has a M.A. in English from Sungkyunkwan University and an Ed.S. in Instructional Design and Technology (CIA emphasis) from the University of Iowa, where she is working on her Ph. D. She has developed two CD-ROMs (“My First English Words” and “Prevention of Sexual Harassment") and a web-based English learning program for Hallym University in Korea (http://esl.hallym.ac.kr). She has experience with many multimedia authoring tools including Macromedia and Adobe software.
