ICN Sessions

The training program included four ICN (Iowa Communications Network) sessions, which were used to help participants learn concepts, principles, and procedures associated with judging alignment and technical adequacy. These ICN sessions were interspersed throughout the training period. The sessions originated in Iowa City and were presented by project staff members. Each presentation was broadcast simultaneously to selected sites statewide (mostly AEA and LEA classrooms) and videotaped. A copy of the tape was sent to a representative of each AEA for use by those participants who were absent from the live session or those who wished to review ideas covered in the session again at a later time.

A total of 65 ICN classrooms were used for this project. The individuals designated as the contact person for a given ITAP team was notified as to which specific ICN classroom their team had been assigned.

Each LEA team was reimbursed, upon request, for travel from its LEA site to their assigned ICN viewing location.

Logistics of each ICN session:

  • Participants were asked to NOT touch their microphones - activating a microphone could have crashed the whole session due to the large number of classrooms.
  • Participants could NOT ask questions of the presenters during the session - instead, they were encouraged to e-mail questions to us.
  • There was not time to check each classroom to make sure it is up - there were 65 classrooms.
  • Participants were reminded to sign the attendance sheet provided by an AEA consultant at their respective classrooms.
