THE IOWA ACCOUNTABILITY RESEARCH PROJECT (IARP)

The Iowa Accountability Research Project (IARP) is a multi-year study of the changes in testing practices in Iowa public schools occasioned by the "No Child Left Behind" Act.  Supported with pass-through federal funds by the Iowa Department of Education, the project is housed in the Center for Evaluation and Assessment at the University of Iowa.  The first phase of the study began in November 2003 and will continue through June 2009.

The goal of the IARP study team it so determine what changes have occurred in testing and teaching practices across Iowa in response to the "No Child Left Behind" Act.  The team is particularly interested in changes in student outcomes on the ITBS/ITED tests, testing patterns (time of year, choice of tests), and school curricula.  The IARP team seeks to determine the extent to which Iowa's response to the "No Child Left Behind" Act has produced real changes in student achievement and to capture other intended consequences of the accountability law on public education in Iowa.
