Qualifying Guidelines

Students in grades 4-9 who score at the 95th percentile or above on one of the following subject scores of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) norm-referenced test:

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Math Problem Solving

The norm-referenced test score percentiles can be found on the FCAT Norm-Referenced Test Student Report.

If students in your school do not take the FCAT, but take another standardized achievement test, such as the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills, the Terra Nova or California Achievement Tests, the 95th percentile or higher criterion still applies. If students in your school do not take standardized tests annually, scores from the most recent testing may be used. If a student is slightly below the 95th percentile, and the parents and educators strongly believe that the student is a good candidate for above-level testing, they may register. However, we typically discourage exceptions to the 95th percentile guideline.
