You will study basic genetics, DNA, technology, and ethics. You will have the opportunity to learn about how DNA can be used to identify different people, you will also find out how this same technology has helped us to build a better cow! You will conduct a DNA analysis lab to help a dairy farmer determine which animals can produce milk with more protein. See you in the lab!

Instructor

Sharon BenderSharon Bender lives in Iowa City. She earned her B.S. and M.S. in Biology from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. She has been a teacher in College Community School District for the past 25 years where she currently teaches AP biology. Mrs. Bender loves all facets of biology but is particularly interested in genetics and biotechnology. She is the mother of three grown daughters who love science. One is a nurse, another is a kindergarten teacher, and her third daughter is currently working on her master’s degree in speech pathology. In her spare time Mrs. Bender likes to do water quality monitoring and travel with her family.
