Challenges for Elementary School Students (CHESS)

Iowa City Session 1 - June 16-27, 2008

The Leader in You - 1 pm-4 pm

Have you heard the term 'natural born leader?' If you’ve heard this term describing yourself, this session…

is for you. Leaders step up and stand out. This session will focus on helping you define your leadership abilities and shape your viewpoints. In order to do this, we’ll study leadership from an individual, group and community perspective. One of the many contexts we will explore is the role of a leader in the social settings associated with students your age. One of the more tangible products of this session will be the production of short video vignettes highlighting the leadership situations we’ll be studying. This experiential learning activity will not only allow you to creatively express your understanding of the leadership concepts covered, but will allow you to work together in a production unit, playing a key part of the production team, to achieve our final product.
