Bring your characters to life by creating your own unique story! In this class, students will develop interesting characters and explore…

creative writing in many different ways. Students will learn the elements of writing short stories and poetry, and develop their own writing style. For the experienced writer, this will be an opportunity for students to enhance their writing. Students will use computers for writing and creativity will be emphasized. Information will be shared about publishing student work.

Christie McConathyChristie McConathy received her Master of Arts in Education Degree as a Reading specialist from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She has served as a consultant in the Gifted Talented Program for Des Moines Public Schools since 1989. Prior to that, Christie taught reading and language arts both at the elementary and middle school level for the Des Moines Public Schools. In addition to teaching the Literature and Writing Class for Belin-Blank CHESS classes since their inception approximately 14 years ago, Christie teaches a writing course for middle school students at the Des Moines Public Schools Gifted Talented Saturday Institute. In her spare time, she is a runner and an avid reader!
