Challenges for Elementary School Students (CHESS)

Computer Applications: P.C.'s (Grades 4 - 6) 9 am-12 pm

Using the basic software for P.C.’s, students will develop skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Internet Applications, use of a digital…

camera, and Microsoft Publisher. Students will use these programs and also have some fun experiences such as creating and printing their own business cards, creating a newsletter using digital photography, designing and creating business stationery.

Instructor

Anna Marie DeskinAnna Marie Deskin is a graduate of Minnesota State University at Moorhead with degrees in Vocal Music and Elementary education. She completed a degree in math and computer science at the University of Northern Iowa. She has taught at elementary and middle schools in the Des Moines Public Schools and currently is the computer teacher and technology specialist at Meredith Middle School, and the technology trainer for the Des Moines Schools’ Infinite Campus. She represented Des Moines at the National Technology Conference in Atlanta and in 1997 was winner of the Bill Gates’ Teacher Award, culminating in 8 days of concentrated training at the Microsoft Campus in Redmond, Washington. She enjoys playing the organ, directing her church choir, scrapbooking, making cards and using her embroidery machine.
