ABOUT PRIMARY CHALLENGE MATH

Introduction
Primary Challenge Math offers students in grades 3-4 math experiences to take them well beyond simple calculations. Class activities are designed to give students a deeper level of mathematical understanding. Problem solving, number sequencing, money, percents, algebraic thinking, negative numbers, logic, ratios, probability, measurements, fractions, and division are topics that will be addressed.

Instruction
The Challenge Math program is designed to be an intensive mentorship program. We are committed to having high-quality teachers as Challenge Math instructors.Click here to read more about our instructors.

Class Size
Minimum of ten, maximum of fourteen students per class.

Text
The materials for the Primary Challenge Math include teacher-generated materials and Primary Grade Challenge Math by Edward Zaccaro. Each student is responsible for purchasing his/her own Primary Challenge Math book. You may purchase this book from us at a discount ($20) with your Primary Challenge Math program registration. If you purchase this book through us, we will give it to your child on the first day of class. The book is also available for purchase on-line for $23.95.

Study
During class time, students are expected to provide clearly written solutions to problems. Students are expected to explain their reasoning. Quizzes may be given periodically to help students maintain previously learned skills. Homework may be assigned.

Dates for Fall
Primary Challenge Math is a semester program with 3 ½ hour classes (9 AM to 12:30 PM) taking place on five Saturdays during the fall semester (see site schedule link). Primary Challenge Math will not be offered during the spring semester.

Location
