Dear Colleague:

The Belin-Blank Center is pleased to offer you a wide variety of different professional development workshops for Summer 2006. Each of these courses corresponds to one of the educational strands necessary for the Iowa Talented and Gifted Endorsement.

Summer workshops within the Psychology of the Gifted strand includes:

    *Introduction to Educating Gifted Students (7C:137)
    *Counseling & Psychological Needs of Gifted (7C/P:125)
    *Cognitive & Affective Needs of Gifted (7C/P:126)
    *Neuroscientific Implications of Giftedness (7P:128)
    *Ethnic & Cultural Issues and Giftedness (7C:124)
    *Creativity (7C/P:129)
    *Gender Issues & Giftedness (7C:123)

Summer workshops in the Programming for the Gifted strand are:

    *Programming and Curriculum for High-Ability Students: Research Projects (7S: 173)
    *Reading for High-Ability Students (7E/S:126)
    *Environmental Science for High-Ability Students (7S:121)
    *Teacher Training in Advanced Placement (7S:280)
Summer workshops in the Administration and Supervision of Gifted Programs strand are:
    *Research/Theory in Giftedness: Wallace Symposium (7P:127)
    *Staff Development for Gifted Programs (7B:113)
    *Administration & Policy in Gifted Education (7B:110)
*may be taken more than one time (varying subject areas) for the Talented and Gifted Endorsement http://www.education.uiowa.edu/belinblank/professional/endorsement.html

The fourth strand necessary for the Talented and Gifted Endorsement involves the individualized program planned for each teacher who arranges the Practicum experience directly with Dr. Laurie Croft, Administrator for Professional Development (laurie-croft@uiowa.edu) at the Center.

The Belin-Blank Center is dedicated to providing exciting and substantive programs. I trust you will find something of interest to you; please encourage your colleagues both within and outside the field of gifted education to consider our workshops. As well, join us for the Eighth Biennial Wallace Research Symposium on Talent Development in May; we are committed to supporting over half of the cost of one-credit hour for participants.
