The mission statement of the Belin-Blank Center (B-BC) reads:

"The Belin-Blank International Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development empowers and serves the gifted community through exemplary leadership in programs, research, and advocacy."

Clearly, research and advocacy are among the primary underpinnings of the B-BC.

The staff at the Center conduct research projects on a regular basis, and the results of that research are synthesized and subsequently published, thereby advocating for gifted students, their families, and educators.

As a Center, several books, reports, and other publications have been released. Among the most recent are A Nation Deceived: How Schools Hold Back America’s Brightest Students (2004), the Iowa Acceleration Scale—3rd Edition (2009), and a three-report series on the status of gifted education in rural America (1999–2006).

Individually, Dr. Nicholas Colangelo (director of the B-BC), Dr. Susan Assouline (associate director of the B-BC), and Dr. David Lohman (research director of the B-BC) have authored and/or edited several books on gifted education as well as multiple articles, book chapters, and policy statements. Additionally, several of the B-BC's administrative staff have contributed chapters to texts and also have had their research published in articles and reviews.
