Standard 1
Demonstrates ability to enhance academic performance and support for implementation of the school district student achievement goals.
Criteria: The Teacher Elementary Counseling Services
a. Provides evidence of student learning to students, families, and staff.

Academic Consultation

  • Share performance/progress information with parents, students, and teacher as necessary
  • Interpret tests for parents, students and teachers
b. Implements strategies supporting student, building, and district goals.

Academic Consultation

  • Initiate the process of evaluation for special service (STEP plans, referrals to Child Study teams)

Academic Program Management

  • Initiate, coordinate, and facilitate testing (ITBS, CoGAT, Academic/Psychological testing)
c. Uses student performance data as a guide for decision-making.

Responsive Services

  • Counsel students regarding classroom behaviors, work completion, academic areas and personal concerns

Academic Planning

  • Participate in the development and implementation of 504 plans, STEP, PACT Special Services staffings and referrals, retention, attendance, and acceleration
d. Accepts and demonstrates responsibility for creating a classroom culture that supports the learning of every student.

Responsive Services

  • Collaborate in formulating accommodations, STEP and 504 Plans
  • Communication (initiating/returning phone calls, E-mail, snail mail, faxes, messages) to an from students, parents, and staff
e. Creates an environment of mutual respect, rapport, and fairness.

Personal/Social Preventative Services

  • Facilitate social skills development such as anger management, conflict resolution, friendship skills, cooperation

Career Responsive Services

  • Provide support to students and families for concerns such as attendance, harassment, child abuse, etc.
f. Participates in and contributes to a school culture that focuses on improved student learning.

Academic Planning

  • Participate in student solution focused teams, teacher support teams, Child Study Teams, parent/teacher conferences, home visits, transitioning visits

Academic Program Management

  • Participate in Parent/Teacher Conferences, IEP meetings
g. Communicates with students, families, colleagues, and communities effectively and accurately.

Academic Program Management

  • Communicate with school, parents and community via newsletters, memos, letters, notes
  • Advise parents and staff regarding student behavior, social interaction skills, and emotional well-being

Academic Consultation

  • Referral/information exchange with outside agencies (learning centers)
